Significantly contributed as project manager for 75 research and planning projects for local, state, and federal transportation studies and improvement projects ensuring a balanced approach to meeting travel demands and federally mandated requirements. Developed and delivered 50 courses and training seminars addressing current topics fundamental to successful transportation research and planning projects, and finance strategies for ITS deployment.
Dr. Trombly is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has completed 26 courses on project and program management principles and procedures, through both the Project Management Institute and SAIC University. He served as an instructor for SAIC University where he taught project management courses to SAIC employees throughout the company.
Research / Projects:
- Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Deployment Tracking Project: Provided support to the ORNL on behalf of the USDOT in conducting national surveys of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); developed, distributed, and analyzed over 2,000 surveys and prepared annual reports.
- Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Operations: Served as Project Manager for numerous task orders covering a range of topics including long-term truck parking, on-line training, and road weather deployment.
- Jason’s Law Truck Parking Study: Project Manager for Congressionally mandated study of national long term truck parking needs; conducted inventory and analysis of driver needs and available facilities to identify shortages.
- (V2P) On-Line Training Course for VMT Estimation: Served as Project Manager for the development of on-line training course to train state and federal staff on the development and application of VMT and vehicle classification data.
- Road Weather Information System Environmental Sensor Station (ESS) Siting Guidelines: Project Manager for development of a document that outlined requirements for siting ESS.
- Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA): Served as Project Manager for traffic engineering and installation access needs at Fort Stewart, GA and Lackland AFB, TX including analysis of short-term and long term needs, project recommendations and costs to mitigate problems identified.
